We are looking for a Software Engineer (Mid-Level) with a passion for games, simulation, and UE4 to work across our Train Sim World titles.

At Dovetail, we are committed to building enthusiast-driven games based around:

We are at an exciting point between console generations, and we are updating our product across the board with new rendering and physics features, increased scale, and greater scope. If working with a fantastic engineering team to help realise this goal sounds appealing, then we would love to hear from you!

We pride ourselves on providing great opportunities for career and leadership development, we minimise crunch, and we are based at a brand-new river-front studio in the heart of the Historic Dockyard in Kent, UK. We are growing fast, developing our games using cutting-edge technology and delivering these on multiple platforms: PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as Next Generation platforms, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X

At Dovetail Games we are passionate about empowering our people to build beautiful worlds, craft breath-taking games and do the best work of their career to deliver our vision: “By Enthusiasts, For Enthusiasts”.

  • Contribute to core development on our Train Sim World franchise, including rendering, physics, gameplay, tools and more.
  • Work within a team of software engineers on a personal level
  • Contribute toward decisions on overall software architecture.
  • Support junior members of the team.
  • Help create the best possible environment to help the team succeed.
  • Understand and contribute toward best practises within the team, including coding standards and review processes.
  • Participate in planning and estimation of work on the backlog.

Person Specifications

  • Professional experience and strong knowledge of C++
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good software engineering skills, with an ability to program clearly, efficiently, and evolve your style and practices where required.
  • Good understanding of debugging, profiling, analysis, and optimisation
  • A passion to deliver quality simulation software.

  • Experience building games in UE4.
  • Degree in Game Development, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or similar
